Hello big wide world, what are you hiding?
Well this is interesting- a website! Welcome to my first ever blog post. I am happy you’re here :)
I have been thinking a lot recently about the Martha Beck quote ‘How you do anything is how you do everything.’ What does this mean for us people who sometimes fall short? Is outcome the measurement of how we do something, or is it our intention?
I ask you, as I have done myself, to reflect on what aspect of self you are most influenced by in the rest of your life. What is your ‘anything’ that is effecting your ‘everything’? Fear is the one for me right now. It seeps into my nature to overthink and plan things out before I have the chance to be present. It has seeped into my trust in others, the process of creation in my work and the most mundane elements of my day to day life.
So how do we face this?
Perhaps we can face these aspects head on, or look at them in the corner of our eyes whilst challenging them in the process. I am, at the moment, exploring how I can work with my dreams to address these elements in the realm of the unconscious. To understand and embrace these downtrodden and exiled pieces of the psyche (if you are interested in this process I would recommend Charlie Morley’s work with lucid dreams. He has many brilliant talks on youtube). Additionally, whilst I am working on this subconscious part of myself I am also working with my conscious mind. Actively facing fear in talking to people I don’t want to, throwing clay in ways that test my current knowledge and understanding and being present, when the last place I want to be is in my own head.
Feel free to let me know what ways you’re dealing with your less pleasant aspects of self, and if you have had any luck with facing and integrating them!
I quite enjoyed writing this, it’s nice to get discussions out of your head without the pressure of having to write an essay around it (I am looking at you, dissertation.)
Until next time, Jodie :)
